InStyle Magazine recently did a piece showcasing the whimsical Manhattan home of Alice + Olivia designer, Stacy Bendet. Much like her designs, Bendet’s home is vibrant, playful and somewhat over the top.
She describes her home decor method as “black and white base punctuated with a riot of bright tones.” As you read on, you’ll find she’s 100% successful in achieving an Alice in Wonderland look.
I absolutely had to share this one of a kind home with my readers. The article was not available online, so please excuse my poor quality scanned images.
Bendet displays her love of art immediately with the entryway lined with work from Claes Oldenburg. Artists lining the walls include names among the likes of Schnabels and Yellin too. Needless to say, it’s an impressive collection.
Bendet’s sitting room (pictured above) is her favorite area of the home. She says, “It has a playful chic and a sexiness I love.” Bendet is a mother of 2 small children. You may be asking how can such an extravagant home still be livable with a 2 and a 4-year-old? Bendet’s answer: incorporating the children’s toys into the decor. She uses the toys as inspiration, rather than a nuisance.
Daughter, Eloise’s (Age 4), room is pictured above. As you can tell from the photo, she is a fashionista in the making. In case you haven’t guessed, her favorite color is purple. Bendet lets her home inspire her clothing and boutiques and vice versa. Eloise’s playhouse was actually a display in an A + O boutique.
Wow, what a shoe closet! Her platforms and heels are organized by color and pattern. I’m guessing many of those are her own designs. I’d love to see how she displays her clothes.
One of my favorite elements of her home is the yard. It’s always interesting to see how city folks make use of teeny tiny spaces. According to Bendet, “The backyard has a wonderland feeling to it– a slightly trippy, avant-garde vibe. I want every room to be that way.”
I feel like I’ve just gone on a tour in fantasy land. I imagine it’s 10x more fab in person.
